Caro-Kann ist eine Eröffnung im Schachspiel, die in mehrere Varianten unterteilt wird und zu den Halboffenen Spielen zählt.
Der Name geht auf eine 1886 veröffentlichte Analyse durch Horatio Caro und Markus Kann zurück, obwohl die erste bekannte Partie mit dieser Eröffnung bereits 1847 gespielt wurde. Populär wurde die Eröffnung allerdings erst, als Aaron Nimzowitsch sie in sein Repertoire aufnahm. Bei einem Weltmeisterschaftskampf wurde die Caro-Kann-Verteidigung erstmals 1958 von Michail Moissejewitsch Botwinnik angewandt.
